What is your business background and experience?
I started sewing in 1996 after graduating from Kelsom’s design school in Blantyre. I then started my business from home and four years later, after seeing that my home business had grown, I moved to a shop in town in the year 2000. My tailoring business has been doing very well over the years and this has led to the birth and growth of my ladies wear boutique. I am very happy to be in business. I have approximately 19 years of business experience.
How have you benefitted as a member of NABW?
I have learned a lot on the importance of business accounting and the importance of networking from the Business Trainings offered at NABW. I am also currently undergoing the African Entrepreneurs Skills & Profits Improvement program that NABW is offering in partnership with Grow Movement. The business knowledge that I am getting from this program is awesome.
What is your advice to aspiring business women in Malawi?
My advice is to not underestimate your abilities as women. I stand on the cutting table and sit on the sewing machine to myself to the surprise of many of my clients. They expect this work to be done by male tailors and many take tailoring as a man’s job. there is no such thing as a man’s job or a woman’s job. You can do anything that God has blessed you with. If you’re skilled at something, do it!
